Skin cancer is the most common malignant tumor, and typically is the result of excessive exposure to sunlight. Several treatment options are available, and depend on the size and location of the tumor. Complete removal of the tumor may involve creation of a substantial defect that could require reconstructive surgery to achieve the best cosmetic result.

The best method for reconstruction is determined on an individual basis after the size of the defect is defined. A scar will be present at the site of the removal, although every attempt is made to keep these effects minimal.
