The University of Washington Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship
Dr. Larrabee established and directs the UW fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This is one of the premier fellowships in the country attracting over 30 applications from outstanding candidates in the US and around the globe. These young men and women have already completed full training in either Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery or Plastic Surgery. They are appointed as faculty at the UW and provide surgical services and teaching at the various UW hospitals. The fellowship is well structured to provide a broad spectrum of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. The fellows observe and assist Drs. Larrabee, Ridgway, and Park 2 days a week at the Larrabee Center; they work 2 days a week with Dr. Murakami and associated faculty at the Mason Clinic; and they operate with Dr. Moe at Harborview one day a week. Once a month they operate with Dr. Sie at Childrens Hospital primarily on ear reconstruction. Additional faculty from the UW including Drs. Bhrany, Mendez, and Futran are involved with teaching when special procedures such as free tissue transfers are performed. Additionally, the fellow serves as the Editorial Fellow for JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery and in this role they assist Dr. Larrabee in reviewing manuscripts and writing editorial content for the journal. Each fellow completes a research project of their own for publication as well.
Our fellowship has produced some of the most outstanding facial plastic surgeons in the world. They have contributed immensely to the medical literature, teaching, and patient care in their own communities. They also bring new enthusiasm and innovative thoughts when they arrive each July. These fellows are an integral and important part of our Larrabee Center team. Our patients benefit from the expertise they bring to our pre and post-operative care.
