Chin Augmentation (Mentoplasty)
Mentoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves chin projection by giving the impression of a stronger chin/jawline. It is typically combined with rhinoplasty to balance the nose or with neck procedures to improve the angle between the chin and neck.
Are you a candidate?
- If you were born with a weak appearing chin
- If you have a prominent nose with a weak appearing chin and desire to help balance your profile
- If you have an acute angle between the chin and neck, a lax neck, and a recessive jawline
Procedure Description
A small incision is made under the chin in a natural crease, and a pocket is created. A carefully sized implant is placed in the pocket and the skin is closed with sutures.
Recovery
- The chin may feel swollen and sore for a few days following surgery
- Most patients experience very minimal bruising
- We recommend that you consume a soft diet for the first week and then slowly progress to your normal diet
- Your sutures will be removed from under your chin between postoperative days 5 to 7
