Procedure Description
The facelift procedure takes about three to four hours to perform under general anesthesia in our office surgery suite. It is an outpatient procedure and you may go home a few hours after surgery. The surgical incisions are hidden, beginning in the temporal hairline and extending slightly behind the ear canal. It then passes around the earlobe continuing up behind the ear, and back into the hair of the scalp.
Recovery
- You will be seen in the clinic the day after surgery for dressing and/or drain removal
- Sutures are removed at seven to ten days after surgery
- There is always some decreased sensation of the face, which goes away over the months after surgery
- Most patients can return to work or public life in two to three weeks
- It generally takes six to eight weeks for the majority of the residual swelling to disappear
- Time, patience and careful attention to instructions are key factors in the healing process
