Procedure Description

The procedure varies depending on which resurfacing option you and your physician select. In general, ablative resurfacing involves the removal of the top layer of skin relying on the deeper layer of skin to heal the more superficial layer. During this healing process collagen is rebuilt and the skin is rejuvenated. Treatments can be performed on the full face or in regional areas such as around the mouth or around the eyes.

 Recovery

  • After facial resurfacing you may expect mild stinging pain and swelling. The pain generally lasts 4 to 6 hours and is usually relieved by taking pain medication. Cool compresses and fans are also comforting
  • A skin care regime will be given to you prior to the procedure and should be carefully followed to achieve the best post op results
  • By day 10 to 14 after the procedure you should be able to use a water based makeup lightly over the area
  • The skin may have a pink hue for the first 6 to 8 weeks that will slowly fade to normal
  • Sun exposure during the first 6 months after the procedure should be limited.  Prolonged sun exposure may cause skin discoloration
