Ultherapy

What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy™—a nonsurgical way to counteract the effects of time and gravity—by tightening and lifting skin tissue.
The beauty of Ultherapy is that it is a 30-minute procedure that uses the body’s own subtle healing response to gently, gradually—and reliably—restore memory to the skin and its underlying tissue. In a clinical study at Northwestern University, physician evaluators noted significant lifting of the brow line. Often, what appeared to be excess skin on the upper lids was actually hooding that was caused by a drooping brow. By simply raising the brow, patients reported a more “open” eye, and a more rested, refreshed look overall. They reported firmer, more toned skin in other areas as well.
How does the Ultherapy procedure work?
It utilizes a device called the Ulthera™ System.
The doctor or nurse touches the smooth Ulthera ultrasound applicator to your face, which allows him or her to actually see into your skin and the tissue beneath.
As with other sonograms, an image is projected onto a screen that both you and the medical practitioner can see. This same handpiece is then used to deliver low levels of heat energy at just the right depth below the skin to achieve a positive effect, leaving the surface of your skin unharmed.
Your skin’s response to the energy is to contract slightly right away, and then to stimulate the growth of new collagen over time. A gradual tightening occurs, ultimately resulting in a natural, beneficial lift of facial skin tissue.
How is this procedure different than other non-surgical skin tightening procedures?
Ultherapy is the only skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound imaging and therapy. The ability to utilize an established technology to both see below the skin and then treat it with great precision, helps ensure both safety and a significant outcome.
What can I expect afterwards?
You are able to return to your normal activities right away and there are no special measures you need to take. Your skin may appear a bit flushed or puffy immediately after the treatment, but any redness should disappear in a matter of hours.
Is Ultherapy safe?
Ultrasound energy has been used in medical imaging and therapeutics, such as sonograms, for over 50 years, and clinical studies have confirmed the safety of this latest application. As with any medical procedure there are general safety considerations, which your physician will review with you.
What kind of results can I expect?
With just one treatment, the regenerative process is initiated, but the full effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months.
In the FDA clinical trial, nine out of ten patients had a noticeable, significant lift of the brow line. This resulted in reduced skin laxity on the eyelid and a more open, youthful look to the eyes overall. Patients reported firmer, tighter, better-fitting skin in other areas of the face and neck as well. There isn’t a non-invasive way to produce the dramatic effects of surgery, but finally there is a non-invasive approach for significant skin tightening and actual lifting.
Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?
A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone with skin that has “relaxed” to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm.
A lowered brow line or sagging skin on the eyelids, for instance, is often the first sign of “maturing” skin.
