Our surgical team can often evaluate and remove it in far less time, with tissue pathology available when it’s needed.

New: On-Site Pathology Through Our LabCorp Partnership
In the past, patients typically needed to see a dermatologist first before Larrabee Center could remove a mole or lesion, so any concerning tissue could be sent out for pathology review. That has changed. Larrabee Center now works directly with LabCorp, which means we can send removed tissue out for pathology evaluation ourselves as part of your procedure, without requiring a separate dermatology visit beforehand. Pathology turnaround time varies depending on the type of lesion and tissue sent for evaluation.
How Mole & Skin Lesion Removal Works
- Consultation: our surgical team examines the mole or lesion, discusses your goals — whether cosmetic, a change you’ve noticed, or both — and reviews your medical history.
- Procedure: performed under local anesthesia, either in-office or in our accredited operating suite depending on the lesion. Technique depends on the size, depth, and location of the lesion.
- Pathology: when clinically indicated, removed tissue is sent to LabCorp for evaluation.
- Follow-up: a follow-up visit for suture removal and a wound check, and to review pathology results if tissue was sent out.

What to Expect During Recovery
Because this is performed under local anesthesia, most patients are able to return to normal activities the same day or the next. You may have some minor swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the site. Sutures are typically removed within 7 to 10 days at your follow-up visit. Keep the area protected from the sun while it heals, and follow your surgeon’s wound-care instructions.
