Facial Fillers Overview

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore facial volume, smooth fine lines, and refine contours. Most fillers are formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance found in the body, known for its hydrating and plumping properties. Other fillers, such as Radiesse® and Sculptra®, help stimulate collagen production, enhancing skin elasticity and strength over time.

With facial fillers, you can achieve a refreshed, youthful appearance without the need for surgery. Results are immediate, minimally invasive, and require little to no downtime.

How Facial Fillers Works

Facial fillers work by replenishing the skin’s natural levels of hyaluronic acid, a substance your body produces to maintain hydration and volume. Over time, as hyaluronic acid levels decline, the skin loses elasticity, which can result in wrinkles and fine lines.

During the treatment, a gel-like filler containing hyaluronic acid is carefully injected into targeted areas. Once in place, the filler seamlessly integrates with surrounding tissues, boosting hydration and restoring volume to the treated areas for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Benefits of Facial Fillers

Facial fillers provide several aesthetic benefits, including:

  • Restoration of facial volume and youthful contours
  • Reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds
  • Enhanced definition of lips, cheeks, and jawline
  • A refreshed and revitalized appearance without surgery
  • Minimal recovery time with long-lasting results

Juvéderm® XC

One of the most popular fillers available today, Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. HA is found naturally in the body and is useful in helping to restore skin structure and maintain a supple appearance and feel. Not only does it provide great results, but Juvéderm is completely safe, with minimal side effects.

Benefits of Juvéderm

  • Effectively smoothes out sagging skin
  • Helps limit laugh lines and reduce deep folds
  • Successfully augments thin lips
  • Is excellent at restoring volume to the cheeks

Juvéderm Voluma™ XC

Also a HA filler, part of what sets Juvéderm Voluma™ apart is that while many other fillers require a period of months before they take full effect, the positive results of Voluma can be seen right away. Volume is the only filler approved by the FDA for adding volume to the cheeks.

Add volume instantly to all regions of the cheek

  • Apple
  • Apex
  • Hollow

The positive effects of a single treatment of Juvéderm Voluma™ can last as long as two years.

Juvéderm Volbella™ XC

Developed using Vycross® technology, JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® allows for a lower concentration of HA to be used, which results in less swelling.

Not only is there less downtime but the treatment itself is also made as pain-free as possible by the built-in lidocaine anesthetic. It is the first and only FDA-approved filler proven to increase lip fullness and correct perioral lines for up to one year.

What Juvéderm ® Volbella ® lip injections can do for you:

  • Diminish vertical lip lines (aka smoker’s lines)
  • Accentuate the border of your lips
  • Plump up your lips to make them fuller
  • Enhance the cupid’s bow (the “M” part of your mid-upper lip)

Juvéderm Vollure™ XC

Introducing the newest member of the popular Juvéderm hyaluronic acid filler family. Vollure is an excellent option for softening the appearance of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, helping to restore a younger, smoother appearance of the skin.

Vollure is great for:

  • Treating parentheses lines or folds around the nose and mouth (nasolabial fold)
  • Softening marionette lines
  • Providing long-lasting results up to 18 months (individual patient results may vary)

Belotero Balance®

This is one of the newer fillers on the market to gain FDA approval for wrinkle treatment. Excellent at treating fine lines because its active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is thinner than the HA found in many other fillers, Belotero Balance® is particularly useful for the treatment of:

  • The thin, fine lines that occur under (and between) the eyes
  • The fine lines that develop around the mouth
  • Superficial wrinkles (ones that develop close to the surface of the skin)

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a “stimulatory filler,” which means that it stimulates the growth of new collagen in the body. In fact, not only does it help the body produce its own, natural collagen, but over time it gets metabolized by the body, such that all it leaves behind is the natural substance your face needs to stay fresh. Radiesse is incredibly good at rejuvenating specific facial features. We use it to:

  • Eliminate wrinkles
  • Lessen severe lines
  • Create a crisp jawline
  • Alleviate sunken temples
  • Restore volume to cheekbones
  • Give you a clean, defined profile

Restylane-L®

As an injectable gel, Restylane L® is highly effective at adding youthful volume and clean contours to your face. One of the chief benefits of Restylane is that it brings you positive effects that you’ll notice right away, regardless of whether it’s been used to treat wrinkles, restore volume, or bring fullness back to the lips.

Restylane is ideally suited for:

  • Rejuvenating laugh lines
  • Treating marionette lines
  • Adding enhancing volume to both the upper and lower lips
  • Filling in lipstick lines

Restylane Lyft®

Because it’s a formulation of hyaluronic acid (HA) that’s designed to act in synch with the HA that’s naturally present in your body, Restylane Lyft® is tremendously good at restoring and maintaining high levels of skin suppleness and structure.

At the Larrabee Center, we employ Restylane Lyft to:

  • Eliminate smile lines
  • Add volume to temple hollows and under-eye hollows
  • Bring life to sunken cheeks
  • Treat marionette lines

Sculptra®

Sculptra® has certainly earned its spot on the list of fillers that Dr. Larrabee also Dr. Susan Kurian recommend to his patients, and he uses it with tremendous success. It’s important to note, though, that Sculptra isn’t a “filler” in the same sense as many others.

Instead of adding new volume directly to the treated area, Sculptra works by stimulating the production of new collagen in your body, and it’s this new, natural collagen that is responsible for the subsequent increase in volume.

Sculptra works to produce new volumes and definitions in:

  • Sunken cheeks
  • Temple hollows
  • Hollows under the eyes
  • The chin
  • The jawline
  • Smile lines
