Many people interested in achieving a tighter, firmer body seek out fat removal procedures such as liposuction or CoolSculpting. While these treatments can help provide valuable body sculpting benefits, they don’t address an important aspect of improving your figure – muscle toning. The Larrabee Center for Facial Plastic Surgery is proud to be the first practice in the Seattle area to offer CoolTone, an innovative new treatment that improves muscle tone to help you achieve your desired figure. Your lymphatic system is an essential part of your body’s immune and detoxification processes. Lymph is a fluid that transports nutrients and oxygen to cells, collects toxins along the way, and flushes them out through your lymph nodes. Continue reading What is a Lymphatic Massage?
For a long time, body contouring has primarily focused on two areas: fat removal and skin rejuvenation. These aspects are critical to helping patients achieve tighter, firmer, fitter-looking bodies, but one crucial facet of body contouring has long been underserved: muscle toning.
It won’t be neglected any longer. CoolTone, from Allergan, the makers of CoolSculpting, is a revolutionary new muscle-toning device that was approved by the FDA in June 2019. It is being released on a limited basis, and the Larrabee Center for Plastic Surgery is proud to be the first practice in Seattle to offer the treatment. Continue reading CoolTone®

What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is based on the science of cryolipolysis, which uses cold temperatures to freeze and destroy fat cells. The treatment can remove up to 25 percent of the fat cells in a given part of your body. The FDA approved it in 2012, and nearly 4 million procedures have been performed to date.
CoolSculpting can help remove fat deposits in areas such as the:
- Upper arms
It’s also important to note what CoolSculpting is not. CoolSculpting isn’t a weight-loss procedure. You should have a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and be at or near your target weight before you get CoolSculpting.
What is the CoolSculpting Procedure?
Dr. Larrabee will perform your procedure using the handheld CoolSculpting device. He’ll apply a gel pad and the applicator to the intended areas. After he’s administered the treatment, our master esthetician will gently massage the target areas to help break up the frozen fat tissue. This will begin the process of your body filtering the fat cells through your lymphatic system and disposing of them.
CoolSculpting treatments usually last one to three hours. Many of our patients read, listen to music, or even work on their laptop during the procedure. Once we’re finished, you’ll be free to go.
Does CoolSculpting Have a Recovery Period?
There is no recovery associated with CoolSculpting. Most patients resume their regular daily routine immediately after their procedure. You may experience some mild redness and soreness, but it should dissipate within a few days.
Your results will become apparent within three weeks of your procedure, and they’ll continue to improve up to six months after your treatment. It takes time for your body to break down the dead fat cells and expunge them.
Once fat cells are removed, they never come back. However, you can still gain weight in other areas of your body, which could lead to a disproportionate figure. Because of that, maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly will help you maximize your CoolSculpting results.
What’s the Difference Between CoolSculpting and Liposuction?
Unlike CoolSculpting, liposuction is a surgical procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. During liposuction, your surgeon will make incisions near the areas of fat you want to be removed, then insert a thin tube called a cannula to suck the fat out.
Liposuction is usually an outpatient procedure that lasts one to two hours. You will need to take a few days off work to recover and wait about two to four weeks before you resume exercise or other strenuous activities. You’ll also experience post-operative swelling that may persist for several months. Your results will become apparent as your swelling decreases.
