Last month, Dr. Larrabee presented the keynote lecture at the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery in Amsterdam. During this address, he discussed the Larrabee Center for Plastic Surgery approach to facial rejuvenation with some of the most well renowned plastic surgeons in the world. In particular, his speech focused on the nonsurgical solutions we use to restore a more youthful facial appearance.
We’ve highlighted the different facial rejuvenation tools Dr. Larrabee discussed in his speech below. As nonsurgical facial rejuvenation options continue to evolve, Dr. Larrabee is constantly evaluating the effectiveness of these new tools to ensure we offer the most effective treatments available.
Accurate Diagnosis is Crucial to Recommending the Right Treatment Option
In any field of medicine, making an accurate anatomical diagnosis is the key to determining the correct treatment approach. This is especially true with aesthetic treatments. It’s important to determine the precise location of the aesthetic concern being addressed. Your treatment plan will depend on whether the issue exists:
- In the skin
- In the tissue just beneath the skin
- In the deeper soft tissue and muscular layers
At the Larrabee Center for Plastic Surgery, we use 3D imaging software to analyze the skin texture and color. This imaging technology also helps us plan and visualize our goals. Based on this thorough diagnostic analysis, we will recommend the right approach to address your needs.
In order to achieve effective results with laser treatments, we’ve found that it’s crucial to truly understand the efficacy and safety of the devices we use in order to make informed recommendations. We have lasers that address different anatomical layers, and it’s important to use the device that will treat the source of issue. In many instances, we recommend combining laser treatments to improve overall aesthetic results.
Laser treatments vary from superficial skin peels to deep treatments that completely resurface the skin. We most often recommend Halo for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. Halo combines two laser wavelengths – the first performs superficial skin peels and the second treats the deeper layers of the skin to address many of the signs of aging you experience. After treatment with Halo, you will experience a youthful glow to your skin.
We take a three-tiered approach to skin treatments:
Both pre-treatment skin care and post-treatment skin care are essential to obtaining beautiful, long lasting results. Depending on the skin condition being treated, we may recommend:
We often recommend intense pulsed light (IPL) for treatment and maintenance of healthy skin. We prefer broad band light (BBL) because it treats pigmentary and texture problems while providing long term enhancement of your skin appearance as it ages.
Restoration of Lost Facial Volume
A common byproduct of the aging process is a loss of facial volume. We can address this issue with dermal fillers which will restore lost volume and fill in moderate to deep wrinkles. At the Larrabee Center for Plastic Surgery, we use a variety of products to restore this lost facial volume, including:
- Hyaluronic acid-based fillers
- Sculptra (a purified poly-L-lactic acid-based filler)
- Fat transfer (your own natural fat is harvested from a donor region to restore lost volume)
These options can be used at different anatomical layers to achieve specific goals. Dr. Larrabee has found that fillers make a strong foundation for many of our other treatment options. In many instances, he’ll combine these treatments with BOTOX® Cosmetic for enhanced results.
Skin Tightening and Fat Removal
Dr. Larrabee uses several different radiofrequency devices to tighten the skin without surgery. He prefers Profound, which delivers bipolar radiofrequency energy to the deep skin and the layers just underneath the skin. This nonsurgical procedure can deliver approximately 43% of the results achieved during a facelift without a surgical procedure.
Dr. Larrabee offers several techniques to eliminate unwanted fat, including:
CoolSculpting freezes unwanted fat cells in order to permanently remove them. Kybella is an effective treatment to remove fat underneath the chin, and is the preferred treatment to improve the appearance of a “double chin.”
Dr. Larrabee also achieves excellent results with Ultherapy, which uses intense focused ultrasound energy to tighten the soft tissue support beneath the skin. This treatment is often combined with Kybella or CoolSculpting to eliminate unwanted fat and achieve skin tightening benefits.
